I have a really hard time imagining someone falling in love with me. Having someone’s ear perk up when they hear my name; having someone’s attention spark when they see my name on paper; having someone’s heart skip a beat when they see me across a room; having someone think about me as much as I think about them. I can’t imagine someone being able to see me at my best and see me at my worst and then still want to stick around. I can’t imagine someone being able to shelve all their other desires and expectations for a “Soul Mate” and settle for me, settle for me forever, and never regret the decision. I can’t imagine someone enjoying my company so much that they would find happiness in grocery shopping with me, or attending mandatory trips to the dentist, or even running to the store in the middle of the night to buy me cold medicine because I’m too weak to get it on my own. I can’t imagine someone thinking about me as they’re falling asleep, or thinking of me when they’re asked at family reunions by curious relatives about their “love interest.” It is impossible for me to imagine someone calling their mom and dad, explaining to them excitedly about how they have found “The One,” and their parents being just as excited about me becoming a part of their already perfect family. Even moreso, I can’t imagine someone deciding to spend the rest of their own private eternity with me, sharing every moment of their interesting life with me, and not being repulsed when I share every moment of my own imperfect life in return.
